Decks

What To Consider

Before our consultation it always helps to have a general idea about what options are available to you for your deck project. Here are a few things to consider before we meet:

Materials

There are primarily three types of materials that are available to choose from when deciding what you want your deck made out of: composite, pressure treated wood, or cedar.

Composite is a premium material that has been manufactured to outlast any other decking material. This premium material requires little to no maintenance and comes in a variety of different colours. The composite material we most often use is AZEK.

Pressure treated is a wood product that has been manufactured to withstand the elements better than untreated wood. It is the most common material we build with and is more affordable than composite.

Cedar has naturally built properties similar to pressure treated that are more favourable for outdoor use. As a premium wood product, cedar temporarily produces an incredible smell and look to it. Cedar can also be stained or painted almost immediately after its construction.

Stairs

Railings can really impact the feel of a deck which is why we have a variety of railing systems to choose from.

For both composite and wood decks the metal posts and pickets by Regal Ideas is a must. Their railing systems have multiple colours to choose from, making it easier to match your deck's personality.

Most of our wood decks use the wood and metal railing system from Nuvo Iron. This is a more affordable alternative to Regal Ideas and allows you to keep the wooden character of your deck seamless throughout it.

Glass is another option we provide for our homeowners. This is a fantastic way to maintain a view from your deck while also providing a wind break. This system can be used for wood and composite decks.

Stairs are a great way to add depth to your deck's design. Our stairs are always hand built with consideration for a comfortable step that fits building code requirements. Always consider where you'd like your access points to and from the deck, while not prohibiting the flow of your space.

Privacy Screens

Add solitude to any space with a picture perfect privacy screen. Not only do they act as a barrier for more privacy but they are also a creative way of providing shade from the sun. Adding louvers to your privacy is a great way to adjust the amount of light that comes through. Consider adding a privacy screen to your deck or another spot in your yard.

Pergolas/ Arbours

A great addition to any deck or open space is a pergola. With many creative designs available you can have a beautiful structure that looks incredible and provides some shade. Pergolas can also be great designated lounging or entertaining areas within your space and are sure to make your space stand out.

Benches/ Planters

Another way to incorporate something different into your deck's design is by adding a bench or planter. These features can be strategically placed beside stairs or rails for more practical uses or even to help break up areas of your deck/ space. We can design a bench or planter that fits your personal needs while creating a beautiful and functional focal point.
